BOSTON — In a day meant to make memories, Jake DePew left Fenway Park with the best keepsake.
The Hudson Valley Renegades’ catcher finished 4 for 4, with three RBI and a home run over the famed Green Monster, leading his team to a 6-5 victory over the Lowell Spinners.
“I just got a good pitch to hit, a 3-1 count, a hitter’s count, and I hit it well. It got out of here,” said DePew, who gave the fan who caught his home run ball a signed bat in exchange for the cherished memento. “That’s something I’m going to take to the grave.”
Hudson Valley (38-20) needed all of DePew’s heroics. Two outs away from a 6-1 victory, the Renegades watched Lowell (28-30) score four runs and put the tying run on first base before reliever Dylan Floro induced a game-ending groundout.
